On 22 December 2006, Blackpool Automotive, the manufacturing division of TVR, announced that it had gone into receivership. TVR was probably the largest British motor manufacturer and arguably the most exotic, with stunningly styled models that have included the Griffith, Chimaera, Tuscan and Sagaris. Understandably, the news of TVR’s demise came as a massive blow not only to the British automotive industry but also to car enthusiasts throughout the world.
Following the sale of Blackpool Automotive, including the TVR trademark, in February 2007, it is hoped that production of the company’s famous sports cars will resume soon. The exact location for production is currently unknown, however, rumours strongly suggest that production will be moved to a new site in Europe. In the meantime, TVR’s Blackpool base paints a sad and depressing picture of a once great motor manufacturer. What was once a busy facility manufacturing exotic sports cars is now little more than an automotive graveyard.
